Did the FDA Allow a Diabetes Drug to Expose Millions to Bladder Cancer Risks?

This past summer the FDA announced its second statement regarding Actos bladder cancer. Actos is a top-selling diabetes drug that has been shown to produce an increase in the rate of bladder cancer of its users in the very earliest tests, the ones performed on laboratory animals. Even though the first warnings of Actos bladder cancer came over 10 years ago, the first FDA Actos bladder cancer safety announced came just over 12 months ago. Diabetes is a serious enough disease, but to get cancer from the drug you taking to control your diabetes is nothing less than insulting.

When the FDA issued its second Actos bladder cancer notice this past June many people took notice, most of which are taking Actos to control their Type II diabetes. All of which makes one wonder if their prescription medication has the potential to cause cancer. Cancer has to be the most dreaded medical diagnosis. It is a disease that has been studied for decades, yet remains a death sentence for roughly half of all people with it. So to think that your bladder cancer was caused by Actos, when other diabetes drugs were available, has become the worst case scenario for thens of thousands of Americans diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos.
